3 Security Essentials

1. Which Antivirus should I use?
a. Norton – Great antivirus, but uses much of the processor to run and will slow your PC considerably.
b. McAfee – Useless. It annoys you with permissions and doesn’t really catch as many bugs as it use to.
c. AVG – YES YES YES . Great product and believe it or not, it’s free to home users. AVG is a small application that updates and runs very fast and silently. It works as well as Norton and you hardly know it’s protecting you in the background. You can get it at www.download.com search for “avg free” They do have a purchase version with more bells and whistles, but free version is great for the general user.

2. What the best Antispy ware?
a. Windows Defender – This is our pick because it’s a small application with a BIG punch and it’s free from microsoft. You can get it at www.download.com search for “windows defender”
b. Ad-Aware- Great application although it is a paid version.

3. Firewall?
a. Windows XP – XP operating system has a built in firewall that is a more than adequate firewall for the general user.
b.Zone Alarm – Fantastic firewall for any Operating system. My only concern is that it constantly asks permission for different applications to access the internet and takes a while to train. This usually annoys the common user. Otherwise very good free or paid version firewall.
